Yesterday on my personal twitter account, I reposted an article by Baptist Global News which was written by Bob Allen. I likened the article to the third verse of the same song regarding the doctrinal ambiguity of Andy Stanley. Let me quickly say from the onset that I have benefited from some of Andy Stanley's books, sermons, and leadership lessons. Andy Stanley has been on the cutting edge of ministry in the twenty-first century, he is a thinker, author, fantastic communicator, and innovator. Again, I have perso...

One of the key factors for a growing church is strong leadership in small groups ministry. Over the past eighteen months, we have placed a massive emphasis on small groups in our church and we have seen the blessings result. Dr. Lee Roberson once stated "Everything rises and falls on leadership." I completely concur with the EVERYTHING, including small groups in the church. There are small groups that thrive because they have a leader that is thriving. Many small groups die because they have a small group leader...

One of my favorite books in the Bible is the book of Job. It is the oldest book in God's Word and it contains great truths about our God, wisdom about life, and direction for the trials of everyday. Having grown up in church, I have heard many sermons out of this wonderful book, and have preached and taught through the book of Job. Every time I have heard a sermon from this book, whenever the subject of Job's wife comes up, she is always painted in a negative light.

Now I know what she is most famous for saying:...

I was sitting in the home of a couple that was close to my parents who had collected me and my sisters from our school today 30 years ago. I can vividly recall this day, January 28, 1986 because this was the day the Challenger was going to launch into space with the first civilians in space aviation history. At school, all we heard about and spoke of that day was the Challenger and how we could not wait to get home to see it launched!

Mr. Ray collected me and my sisters from school and we immediat...

False Humility

On the surface the whole I love Jesus and want nothing to do with church sounds so radical and hip that it really does appear to be a more simple and humble way to live life. But in truth, think about what one is really saying:

1. People in the church are not really following Jesus.

2. I am going to be the real Jesus follower in spite of all other misguided souls in the church.

3. No church is really serious about following Jesus, therefore I do not need to the church.

4. I have my own agreement wi...

"I love Jesus, but I have decided that the church thing is not for me." This is a direct quote from a thirty year old man with a wife and two children who has been in church his entire life until now. In a recent book, "The Rise of the Nones", the author makes the case that people have forsaken the church for various reasons and religions, butthe fastest growing church affiliation in America among millenials is None.

There are many reasons people leave church today, but the en vogue reason that I have heard in the...

Summer 2015 is officially winding down this weekend and it has been a doozy if you are a Bible believing Christian! The US strikes a historic, anti-Israel, deal with Iran. The Supreme Court legalizes same-sex marriage in all fifty states.Planned Parenthood is discovered to be harvesting the developed body parts and organs of murdered, unborn children.Josh Duggar along with hundreds of Christian leaders and church members are outed on Ashley Madison. A Kentucky clerk refusesto issue marriage licenses to same-sex c...

Recently, I was reading an article that used an ancient metaphor of a man that asked God to make him stronger in order to be more useful. God answered him and said "I willanswer your prayertomorrow morning." The man was so excited with anticipation that in the morning he would wake up with bulging muscles and the strength of a lion that he could hardly sleep that night. He woke up the next morning and rushed to the mirror to see his physique only to find that he was met by the same body he had gone to sleep in th...

"Agony, torture, psychological abuse, mentally stressful, complete exhaustion, physically excruciating, and cruel and unusual punishment" are just a few of the descriptions that Navy Seals who have experienced the fourth week of Seal training in San Diego, CA use to describe what is now called "Hell Week." The week begins on Sunday evening at Midnight and will end on Friday around midday. For five and a half days these Seals go through some of the most physical, emotional, and psychological pressure that most of...

Last night, millions of Americans were glued to their flat screen televisions as the opening debate took place between the GOP candidates on Fox News. As I watched a few minutes of the replay this morning, I was reminded of the privilege that we have today that people in the first century church did not have, the opportunity to participate in electing leaders and thus influencing a nation. We are a blessed people indeed to even be able to participate in the process.

More importantly, I was remindedof acrucial trut...
